Nelson's Landing Observing Site is a relatively good dark sky site for the Eastern skies. This is a very comfortable site for spring viewing. Being so close to Lake Mead it tends to be much cooler than the surrounding desert.

To get to Nelson's Landing Observing Site, travel until you reach the junction of 215 and 93/95 (this is at the Fiesta Casino in Henderson). Travel South on 93/95 (8.4 miles) until you get to the split of 93 and 95. Take the 95 exit and travel South for another 9.4 miles until you see the Nelson road turnoff headed East. Go East on 165 all the way to the observing site. When you have traveled 10.8 miles you will see the Main Street of Nelson on the right. Traveling another 1.6 miles you will see an old gas station (gas not available) on the left. Traveling another 5.0 miles you will see a road to the right that leads down into the valley (do not take this road, continue straight). Continuing straight for 0.2 miles you will come to a loop in the road. This circle is about 100 feet in diameter and is the viewing site. Pick a spot and make yourself at home as others will have already arrived or will arrive shortly.

Remember when visiting Nelson's Landing Observing Site, members may not be present due to changes in weather. Please don't use white lights, and use red lights sparingly. Make sure you drive slowly to avoid stirring up dust. Most of all come out and have fun with the other observers!
